I wanted to impress my Taiwanese friend with some Szechuan food so I picked this place for their décor I seen on yelp. Their soup was moderately spicy for me and almost unbearably spicy for my friend, so I feel they are legit since I love spicy food. We ordered the pork knuckle and a spicy seafood soup which tasted amazing! Check the picture and see how red the soup is. It's moderately spicy but looks quite intimidating.

I definitely love their reservation options on the Yelp app but when we got there, we didn't need it. However, at the end of our meal, there was a line forming at the door so it is needed if you're coming in around dinner time.

Service was okay because we had to wait and eventually flag down an employee to get some water because my friend was dying. This was when the restaurant was half full so a bit more attentiveness would have been nice.

Lasting impression: this was a mistake to go to Spices.
We felt forgotten by the waitstaff.
They did not have knowledge of the beers on tap. I had to say which color the nozzle was rather than the name of the beer. Also, the beer was not filled to the top.
The Orange Chicken was cold and rubbery. That is my experience, but the staff wanted to argue this point of view. In the end they did take off the  dish from the total bill.
Definitely not going back to Spices.

I don't usually post reviews but I felt this place was ridiculous enough to warn others about. so it's sunday night and my friends and I were hungry so we went to dine in at this place. everything was normal until they only gave us 2 menus for 8 people (wasn't ticked off yet by this, it was whatever). what did start pissing me off was we clearly came in first & they started taking orders of tables that came in after us. then when waving the older gentleman over, he didn't come but when he did we asked if we can order and he said we have to go up to the counter to order when they waited everyone else at their table?? whatever we didn't do that because we were all very confused. when he came back, we tried again and he said can you order in chinese and we said yes and he left?? never came back and I was pissed off enough to wave the waiter over this time and said can we order now and he just took the order and left. we were waiting for our food for 20 mins while everyone got their plates right away so we decided to ask them about how long it will take and he said "5 mins.. 10 mins.." and my friend asked another question and suddenly it became another 15 mins like wtf? so we said to cancel it. i was so confused af, thinking if we did anything offend them but nah we left because obviously the place was trash because they then came out to tell us "it'll be 5 mins" before the food comes out. we only ordered two orders of dry hot pot. THAT WAS LITERALLY IT. we are reasonable because if it was a big order then of course it would take longer but it wasn't the wait time. it was the treatment for their customers. I felt like they looked down at us just because we weren't older, more "asian" enough.. honestly, I don't believe any other place comes to mind when I think of terrible food service but this one from now on. don't waste your money on this place. although I didn't try their food, I don't think I will ever want to.

    edit after owner response:
I have no problem respecting any business and everyone involved and we did. your father wasn't a bad person and i never said he was but he was rude to us. we said we can speak chinese and he just left and yes he did provide all of these things to us and we don't deny that and we were grateful for that but we were not grateful for the comments and the way he kinda lightly chuckled at us when we said yes we can order in chinese nicely and then left. can you explained why he told us to order at the counter while everyone else got waited on at their table? we were nice the whole time until we were treated poorly and even then we were very civil and just told you to cancel the order. we waved to get our order for a while before you waited the table that came after us. I love small businesses and they have all my support because my family has owned many and still owns some restaurants. I wouldn't have wrote a bad review if we weren't treated the way we did. we came in to have a nice night out with our friends and people we care about as i'm sure you can understand that. you're a good son for defending your father and I don't take any insult or hurt to that but I wasn't disrespecting him or your business. I gave an honest encounter of what I experienced with no agenda. we felt disrespected. I was pissed but never did I acted out on it. I respected your business and the people there and just cancelled the order and we all left. if it was the other way around and this happened to you, i'm sure if you felt mistreated, you would feel the same.

    new response to owner:
Kenny, I appreciate the explanation. I definitely understand where you are coming from now. It's no hard feelings but in the future, it would be better experience for your customers to have a little more knowledge of what's going on while there because we had no idea what was going on and were patient several times which was why we tried several attempts to get an explanation before we really got upset. no worries. i'm sorry too that had to happen, we were looking forward to the meal too but hope everything is better in the future. thank you.

    Terrible service.

    1) We were told we could only order in chinese from the older chinese gentlemen, he also smirked at the chinese from one of our fluent speaker. First time we experienced this kind of racism/discrimination.

    2) took orders from tables that came after us.

    3) hot pot took way too long, and when pressed about gave back different times each time. When we told them we were just going to leave, the manager told us 5 minutes when he told us 15 just moments before.

Unfortunately, unable to comment on food because of garbage service.

Pretty average. The Dan Dan noodles were mostly just noodles in chili oil, not quite right. While what we got was ok to decent, it wasn't great and with all the options around them we will seek out somewhere else for our food needs.
